I've seen a lot of iphone users switch to android only to switch back to iphone. Some people are just contrarian by nature and will just come up with any rationalization why the market leader is bad, etc and should use something else. I guess its possible to do this in eagle to but I. The main point is, there is a very good reason a product becomes the most widely used in the category. I did that in diptrace sometimes.works fine, but you have to redo all the pads and vias manually. If another software comes along that becomes more widely used than eagle, then I'll switch. To import the footprint: Diptrace Launcher > Component Editor, click on Library > Import > Eagle Script, and select your script file. The files have custom components in them that are stored in libraries in DipTrace. I made sure the sch and brd were consistent with no ERC or DRC errors before exporting. I have just exported my schematic and board files from DipTrace to Eagle. You'll find that both layers are, by default, reassuringly white. Hi Apologies for asking the same questions again. If you want to put text on the silkscreen then you should select one of those two layers for it. Now everything is buried in layers of menus, sub-menus, button choices and THEN "apply" whether they need to be or not. The top silkscreen is generated by combining (usually) layers 21 (tPlace) and 25 (tNames). Probably because it is developed and maintained by the people that actually to use it? But then again, I used ORCAD back when you just typed an "r" and a resistor symbol popped up on the screen. PCB (part of the gEDA project) was painful to learn but much easier, for me anyways, to use. By your theory we could never have a new product because the 'winner' has already been chosen and you can't start with a large installed user base. Support for more file formats like KiCAD and DIPTrace More tools to get your board actually produced Footprint editor Schematic Capture Layout editor.
